Natasha’s Law & Allergen Labelling Regulations

On 1st October 2021, the UK Food Information Amendment - also known as Natasha’s Law - came into effect in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales to help better safeguard people with food allergies. This means, if you offer food or drink pre-packaged for direct sale (PPDS), then you need to include full ingredients declarations on pack with any allergens highlighted in bold.

You’ll find full details on the legal requirements that you have to follow as a food business at the Food Standards Agency (FSA) website or you can simply download our free user guide below.

What Legally Needs to Be on a Food Label?

Wondering what compliant labels look like? Then look no further. If you offer food or drink pre-packaged for direct sale (PPDS), then you need to include:

  1. Full ingredients declarations on pack in QUID order (this means percentage order from largest to smallest)...
  2. ...with all allergens highlighted in bold
  3. Labelling font size - a lower case 'x' must be at least 1.2mm tall which is the minimum font size for all text on your labelling

You'll find further examples of our label recommendations to ensure compliance with Natasha’s Law below.

Paula Young, Petroc’s Catering Support Administrator

LabelLogic Live saves us an unbelievable amount of time. We use around 36,000 ingredients at Elior which encompasses 26 allergen attributes as well as reference intakes which, in turn, pull in around another ten pieces of data. It has streamlined the entire process delivering accurate, consistent labelling across the board.

Ian Smith, RME Manager Elior

“LabelLogic Live has allowed us to get ahead on allergen labelling. It enables us to meet current laws and pre-empt what will be needed.”

Jackie O’Brien, Hotel Services Manager Catering at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary

LabelLogic Live is straightforward to use and the Planglow support team are helpful when I get in touch with questions. The software is intuitive, and it’s easy to create products, product lists, and bakery label templates. Above all, it gives us the flexibility to create new products or update product information at short notice.
